This course has been designed for new transport managers recently qualified, restricted operator licence holders, directors, managers or anyone seeking training to help start out or gain knowledge on how to manage the transport operation within the haulage industry.

The course takes the elements of the operator licence undertakings and puts them in a practical training session giving the transport manager or transport leads the key skills to audit, monitor and review the compliance of an operator.

This course has been accepted by the Traffic Commissioners as a part of a Transport Managers continuous professional development (CPD).

Course content

  • Reading and understanding inspection records
  • Understanding brake tests
  • Challenging maintenance providers
  • Downloading and operating Tachographs and VU’s
  • Using Tachographs the basic’s
  • Understanding Tachograph Analysis
  • Inspection Scheduling
  • Driver licence checks
  • Gate checks / driver walk round checks
  • Record keeping
  • Prohibition process (what to do and how to reduce)
  • Staying compliant
  • Understanding operators and TM’s undertakings including the 7 deadly sins
  • Dealing with incidents / accidents.

Students will be issued with useful information including Links to ACOP’S, best practise and Transport Managers excel daily working spreadsheet.

Students are encouraged to bring laptops, documentation and ask questions.

The main objective of this course would be for all students to leave with the knowledge on what to check, when to check and how to monitor and deal with transport compliance in a real and practical way.

No experience or qualifications necessary but a general understanding of the transport operators responsibilities would be an advantage (please see our Transport Manager Refresher course for more detailed transport undertakings training).
